Back Strength With The Thick Rope

February 28, 2010 on 11:22 am | In Strength Training | 9 Comments

Thick ropes can be used for MUCH more than rope battling and conditioning (although that’s awesome).

In this video we have 2 inch and 1 1/2 inch rope fastened to our power racks via my unbreakable knot (sarcasm).

Exercises Performed:

  • Thick Rope Climbers (not shown)
  • Thick Rope Supine Rows (not shown)
  • Thick Rope Climbing
  • Thick Rope Pull ups
  • Thick Rope Climbing Challenge

Primary Muscles Targeted:

  • Upper back
  • Hands
  • Forearms
  • Biceps
  • Core

Thick Rope Benefits:

  • Challenging
  • Involves serious hand strength
  • Requires stability
  • Versatile / Transportable
  • Enjoyable

The Original OLD Video (plus one of my favorite songs)

I have some great (cheap) places where you can get thick rope from and I’m incorporating it all into the Odd Object Encyclopedia coming out in a few months (possibly another sweet giveaway!?)

HUGE POST COMING IN TWO DAY.  I’m flipping over it!

  2. They are amazing! Supine rows with the ropes are a whole other movement that they are with a bar.

  6. Joe,
    Thanks for the great videos!
I’ve used some low priced tow ropes (Wal-Mart) for some modified rope climbs, etc.
Looking forward to hearing where we can get some “cheap” thick ropes.
