THIS POST REQUIRES ACTION!
…to receive one of my manuals free!
“Resolve to perform what you ought, perform without fail what you resolve” – Ben Franklin.
According the Harris Interactive only 45 percent of people make New Year’s Resolutions anymore – and only 46 percent of people that bother to make resolutions keep them.

Water has never been so scared…
Here are the top 10 New Year’s Resolutions people made from 2008.
- Spend more time with family
- Get Fit
- Lose the “belly fat”
- Quit smoking
- Enjoy life more
- Quit drinking
- Get out of debt
- Learn something new
- Help others
- Get organized
6 or 7 of the top 10 have to do with health issues (mental and physical).
It is easy to resolve but it is much more difficult to take action on these resolutions. You may be thinking – “oh boy, another post and hypocrite about New Year’s Resolutions.” Well, I’m going to back up this talk.
Let us TAKE ACTION TOGETHER!
Last year I wrote an article (here in the new Strength Training Article Section) that laid out ways to make goals achievable.
The first way is to tell others. The second is to post it somewhere that you will see it every day.
Well I’m doing both right now with quantitative goals that everyone will know whether I achieved or failed. Time to back up the straight talk on the website.

Here are my two goals for the world to see.
- Drop excess weight by completing workouts from Bull Strength Conditioning 3 times a week.
- Move the gym to a larger facility AND make it a larger success.
Now that those goals are public I MUST SUCCEED. There is no turning back.
What’s your goals?
- Joe Hashey, CSCS -
==> PS. If we get 100 comments again, I will give away your choice of Homemade Strength, Bull Strength, or Bull Strength Conditioning to one comment that reaches out to me.
Double PS. Already post your goals somewhere? Post them here as well! Let everyone you can know while you internalize your resolutions
Triple PS. I will be posting the winners from yesterdays post in the comment section in a few hours! Check it out.
MORE ARTICLES YOU MAY LIKE:
Here is my Goals..
-Heal wrong training injuries
-More conditioning
-More Core Exercises
-More time with Family
-Build some home equipment
-Try to stay injury free
I don’t know if i’ll reach my goals
but now i’ve post them… i can not hide myself.
Great site Joe.

Joe, awesome stuff as always, Im pumped you posted this since I missed out on yesterday’s give a ways!
My New Years Resolutions are to ACTUALLY stretch and take care of my body rather than just pound the heavy weights, and to start doing some conditioning at home!
Your Bulgarian sandbag has been awesome for helping me accomplish the second one!

Hi Joe,
My concrete goals are getting my fitness trainer license. And from there to go on to improve my knowledge about training and life.
The other goals are not so concrete at least not at the moment. Go on with training, staying healthy and being successful in every aspect of life. Especially working with my team and improve our team spirit.
They will come up and get more shape during the next days/weeks/month.
Have some great days before new years eve,
bossk

I’ve never been one to make resolutions; I’ve always had the “don’t talk about it, just do it” mentality, but in the spirit of things here are my goals:
1. stick to the training plan
2. get in the gym at least 3 days a week (this is a tough one being in grad school)
3. condition, condition, condition
4. make some homemade training gear
5. be different, train uniquely, and do things that get people’s attention and go “I wonder what that workout does”

Hey joe, I have many goals that I want to reach.
1. Stick to a paleo diet
2. Do hard workout in the same style than crossfit
3. Have good notes at school
4. Choose what I want to do later (There’s so much options and I need to choose fast. I’ll probably go in the health and fitness.)
5. No smoking (drugs kill you)
This is just some of my goals. I want to work hard to achieve them all. If I succeed in my goals, I’ll do something that I always want to do : a parachute jump.
Good luck Joe and happy new year

2010 will be the Year of the Bull. No bull s–t. Just BULL STRENGTH!
Resolution: To become stronger and fitter in 2010 than I was as a gym rat 25 years ago by bringing full passion and energy to every workout and applying the methods of Joe Hashey and other experts in old school strength and conditioning.

#1 Lose Weight and stick to the program.
#2 Learn How to Swim
#3 More outdoor activity with my sons (8yrs & 2 yrs)
#4 Keep my garden growing! (Sustainability)
#5 Get my kids involved with some kind of physical activity (Judo, Swimming, Dancing, Whatever…)
Those are my top % for this year, I turn 40 in ‘10 and I want set an example for my boy about fitness. We don’t even know how to swim and we live in Hawaii, hows that??? I even created a blog last year to help me with accountability and I failed at that. I want to make this year different. I want my failure to lead to success this time around! I have other goal but those are the priority!
Aloha.

I’ve always been very successful in my resolutions. Since I received my first Personal Training certification, I have surpassed every resolution I have made. First I had to take off the mommy weight. These days, I have to achieve more competitive fitness goals for myself. One year, it was to bench press my own body weight. This year, I learned Olympic Power Lifting. This year I plan to beat a certain mile and 5K speed. I came up with this goal because i realized that I was always pretty strong but not always such a great runner.
I gave myself a couple of years to get a good cliental at a gym and was able to achieve that in a few months. I made a goal to get more into group fitness a few years back so I could spend more time with my son and that went so well, I burned out from teaching too many classes. This year, I’d like to start becoming successful in running my own boot camp business. I just got a job as a coordinator for the YMCA so I could learn more about the other side of business and I get a ton of emails from boot camp experts. I give myself a year to complete these resolutions so I don’t get frustrated if I don’t get results in the first month. What I also like to do is discard the goals that no longer seem to suit me and gain a clearer picture of what my long term dream is. Sometimes we think we want something, but realize it wasn’t exactly the path that suited us. There is nothing wrong with growing and re-inventing oneself. Progression progression.

Robert – we had to take a swimming test to graduate Colgate University – it was no joke and a lot of people didn’t know how to swim at all. They had to take a class to learn how to do it, and even though it took time, most of them appreciated it and enjoyed learning that skill! good luck,
Joe

Joe,
I have the increase your squat now unfortunatly I have so many articles on my computer I just never got around to reading it. Sorry my bad. But there are things on there that I know I am doing wrong so next time I squat I will try them out. Thanks for the offer on the CSCS and thanks for this site. Hope your enjoying your early christmas present(your son).
Comment by Bryan — December 26, 2009 #
If I had to generalize my goals for this year, they are pretty close to my long term goals…
-get bigger, leaner, and stronger
-get more rest, stay healthy
-develop my business
-enjoy quality time with my family (especially my little girl)!
The other stuff will take care of itself.
Comment by Josh — December 26, 2009 #
I’ve always felt to be successful goals have to be either measurable or accountable, so here are mine:
1. Actively rolemodel proper eating and nutrition for my children. Believe me my 4 year old twins will call me out on this one.
2. Get my bodyweight under 231 lbs (105 kg). When I competed in Olympic lifting this was my weight class, so it’s time to “make weight”.
3. Schedule my workouts so that they don’t take away from family time. Hello 5 am workouts.
4. Place in the top 10 at the Master’s World Championship in Highland Games

Joe,
Great post and great responses.
But, I do have to be totally honest with you. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions.
I make DAILY resolutions with my Faith, Family, Freedom and Friends to allow me the ability to achieve a plan of happiness.
I strive to learn something new everyday. And with the lessons you provide on all the workouts we are privileged to witness and perform, the fitness aspect of those daily efforts really make that plan worthwile.
Whatever influence I may have with those with whom I associate and those that witness my actions and behavior are what are most important to me.
I love to train. And Train Hard! A saying I enjoy and implement daily is “Train Hard or Go Home!”
Thank you for the privilege of enjoying your posts and best wishes to all the above and below who strive as I do.
