Long story short, I challenged one of my athletes to perform a one handed ball grip pull up. He could, I couldn’t!
This movement requires a huge amount of hand and wrist strength, coupled with serious pulling power. Mike was able to nail the pull up after just a couple tries.
These ball grips are incredibly easy to make. Simply put an eye bolt through a softball. Enjoy the challenge!
One Handed Ball Grip Pull Up
It is important for the younger athletes to work on their relative body strength, and Mike is a great example of that!

PS. ALL of Mike’s lifts have been skyrocketing, including benching 135 lbs 12 times at the age of 14 and a body weight of 155 lbs! Oh, and his max was 135 when he started on the program just a few months ago.
After this video he went ahead and ripped off 14 pullups on the ball grips! (video up shortl)
How much does the average bottle or tub of a supplement cost? 40, 50, 60, dollars?
So, the ultimate rhetorical question, what do you think will get you better results – a bottle of the “hottest” supplement, or an entire DONE FOR YOU program packed with strength and muscle building exercises?
I tried a single today and could not do it. 31 regular, 15 two hand ball…ZERO singles. Guess grip is the weakness. Tell Mike he is the man and I’m gonna be gunnin for his single record. As always, Bull Strength is the best. Thanks for a awesome book Joe.
[...] 2. Softball Grip Pull Ups – this homemade tool opens up the hand more which will increases the demand for support grip strength. Also, the grip rotates which allows different, often more comfortable, shoulder tracking. Here is a 14 year old ripping 14 ball grip pull ups (now up to 20) and a one handed pull up. [...]
Joe,
That is awesome, because I know there is no way I could do that one!! Good work by the young man.

Dude, very impressive!
You have some young studs training with you!! Nice work, Joe and Mike!
I bet he’s one of the FEW 8th graders around that can do something like that.
