I led off the month of May – Homemade Equipment month, with a homemade tornado ball version that has worked great for me.  However, there is a wealth of information out there on this topic.

Here are some places where you can find some great ideas:

PS.  Jedd Johnson from the Diesel Crew and I just made an awesome homemade equipment DVD.  It has some very unique and useful items that will save people tons of cash.  Take a look and get on the newsletter for the release date – HOMEMADE STRENGTH!

  1. Joe,

I am getting an “error” message on both the Atlas Stone links.

    Keep up the solid work.

  2. Al,

I get that now too. That is the right link, his site might be done. I added another link next to it that works. Not as good, but generally the same. Hopefully that site goes back up!

  3. I made pull up bar similar to the one on the home made equip page. I have been trying to find foam grips to go over the bar, but have not had much luck finding anything on the web. Any ides?

  4. Yes, WJB. Are you looking for foam grips to thicken the pulling portion of the bar? If so, Tyler Grips are great. Looking for something simpler? Get some pipe insolation from a Home Depot or Lowes. It is softer, but still will add a great deal of difficulty.

Is that what you were asking?

  5. Joe,

Sort of. I am not trying to make it more difficult, rather I am trying to to replicate the grips you find on the manufactured pull up bars (Iron Gym, P90X, etc).

I’ll give the pipe insulation a try.

Thanks for your time and help.
