Isaac – I was standing at the strongman comp with Joe Kenn on Saturday and he tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a guy saying “How pissed would Louie be right now?” It was a dude with 0 muscle, a chin strap beard, aviator sun glasses, cut off cargos and sandals……and a westside shirt!

  9. The truth is if you want to train you will train. No ailment or diseases will stop you. You just need to find a different way.

    Comment by Brian — March 10, 2010 #

  10. Brian – that’s 100% truth!

Comment by Admin: Joe Hashey, CSCS — March 10, 2010 #

  11. My 12 cents:

    The truth is:

    Training hard won’t kill you.
No one trains as hard as they can…there is always “something” left.
Some people whine way too much. (If you whine at all it’s too much.)
Not all trainers are created equal (neither are all doctors, therapists, etc)
Most doctors/physical therapists/athletic trainers don’t know how to train for performance.
Many people have way too many excuses.
Many gym owner/trainers don’t care about the client as an individual.
    Many clients want miracles.
Miracles don’t exist in the gym.
The amount of time spent in the gym does not equal increased performance.
    People don’t read enough.
People don’t spend enough time becoming better people.

  25. Crystal – right on! There are three women that email me regularly from this site and just dominate in their workouts. However, like you said:

The truth is, females need to change the way they think about strength.

3 isn’t a large number! I always enjoy hearing from women in the community that get appropriate strength training workouts in.

    Thanks for the comment Crystal,

Truth is, I’ve been doing the Bulgarian split squats myself and i think it is best as my left leg seems weaker than my right due to past injury. Thanks for the tip.

  34. The truth is – I train in my basement and my dog is my training partner. While he never talks during a set or ruins my concentration, he’s a terrible spotter

The truth is – People think it’s weird when I tell them I carry around heavy stones. Personally, I think it’s odd that they don’t.

The truth is – At 39 yrs old, I’m the strongest I’ve ever been in my life. And that ain’t not too bad.

    Comment by Brian — March 10, 2010 #

  35. truth is….the limiting factor of physical strength for MANY is their mental strength.

truth is….the prowler separates boys from men, girls from women, weak from strong…

truth is….Joe is SPOT ON with skinny kids whipping out their 6pack abs and shredded 10″ pipes. Go lift a stone.

Truth is…..can your exercisefor a primary muscle involve a ball if it is made of cement, 16″+ diameter and weighs 200lbs+?

truth is…..most people would get dramatically better results if they gave a shit about their nutrition.

Truth is….. if you plan on just “going” to the gym or “showing up” for a training session, you may as well stay home. Going through the motions is a waste of time for everyone involved.

Truth is…many adolescents mature around 15-18 years; an ideal age to refine sport specific motor skills and speed, strength, etc…..parents should spend more time having their kids train with Joe Hash and less time complaining their kid was pop-warner MVP and should be starting, blah blah blah

Truth is….bad trainers AND closed minded trainers piss me off.

Truth is…..Coaches like Hashey, SMitty, and Cressey inspire me to be a better coach and trainer.

Truth is……There are WAYYYYYY too many certifications out there.

Truth is….people (clients) need to stop bitching about knurling on bars and attachments; its there for a reason!

Truth is…..That still doesnt mean you can wear fingerless gloves.

Truth is…..I HATE when trainers/gyms “guarantee” results or certain weight loss. Results are EARNED, NOTHING is guaranteed.

Truth is….People really need to warm up more before heavy lifting. Too many stupid injuries from lack of being prepared…

Truth is…. http://www.elitefts.com is one of my favorite places to spend my hard earned cash.

Truth is….I have way too much to say….

Comment by Ari Selig, CSCS — March 10, 2010 #

truth is…. no supplement can ever make up for shitty work ethic.

truth is…… NFL off-season is painful…. but adds an extra day to my training schedule.

truth is…. it becomes apparent very quickly who’s going to be dedicated and stick out a program, and who’s gonna shy away from the tough stuff and call it a day.

truth is….. working out with nothing but rope and a garbage can lid is pretty badass, and I wish I had thought of it myself …Great job Joe.
